Here are daily average retail unleaded prices in four major Australian cities over the past six weeks, from early September to mid-October 2026.

What the chart shows

Prices started the period at around 205 cents per litre and climbed steeply through mid-September, adding roughly 30 cents in a little over two weeks. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane then moved closely together, holding in the mid-230s before edging up to around 240 cents in mid-October and easing slightly towards the end of the period.

Perth moves differently

Perth followed the same overall trend but with sharper short-term swings: bigger jumps up and steeper falls in between. By the end of the period it was the cheapest of the four cities, at around 233 cents per litre.
